Liza found a tight space behind the backseat and whatever Sam had in the trunk to fit in his jeep. There was enough stuff around that Liza was able to cover herself and blend right in with her surroundings. Next thing Liza knew she was falling asleep.
Liza awoke to a car door slamming. Sam was finally here, the car was on and Sam was driving. They exited the facility and Liza fell asleep again. This time she saw the face. She knew who it was.
A sudden stop jolted Liza awake this time. She heard Sam say “Shit” and then another voice said “you ok?”. Sam must be talking on the phone. “Yeah,” Sam started, “just had to slam on the brakes from some idiot. I’m almost to the border.”. Liza started to panic. What border were they crossing? Would they speak English?
What felt like an hour later, they came to a stop. Liza could only assume they were in line, waiting to get across the border. They got to whatever border they were crossing and Liza heard the usual questions she would expect at a border. She was surprised. They did not ask Sam too many questions and he was on his way again.
After another few hours in the car, Liza was starting to get uncomfortable. Thankfully, Sam stopped somewhere and got out of the car. Liza took this opportunity to leave the vehicle herself. She managed to do so. To her surprise she was at a gas station. It looked like she was somewhere in the United States. It’s not quite home, but it’s close enough. At least she could rely on the police to help her here. Before she could do anything she had to hide to make sure Sam couldn’t find her. She went around the gas station and stayed there until she heard a few vehicles leave. She peeked around the corner to make sure the jeep was gone. When she saw it was, she breathed a sigh of relief. She was one step closer to freedom.
Liza then went into the gas station and up to the counter. The man behind the counter gave her a really weird look. She realized she probably looked crazy, but this was her best chance at getting someone, anyone to help her.
“Hi, my name is Liza Monroe, I was kidnapped by my ex-boyfriend. I was finally able to escape him. May I use your phone to call the police?”
The man behind the counter just stared at Liza incredulously. She was worried that he was going to say no, until he moved his hand to the phone, picked it up off the receiver and handed it to her. Liza dialed 911…
… She explained her story to the police officer. How she was kidnapped by Sam, how she was not the one who murdered Blaine, but Roody was. Blaine’s best friend. He was mad at Blaine for stealing his girlfriend and lying to him about it. Roody discovered this earlier in the year and came up with a plan to get back at Blaine. What Roody didn’t count on was Liza stopping by to check in on Blaine as she had come to care for the kid while Sam and Liza were dating. She just wanted to make sure he was doing ok and wouldn’t turn out as bad as his father. Roody had enough of a drug cocktail to drug Liza, but not Blaine. He then confronted Blaine about Julia. Blaine explained everything that happened and answered Roody’s questions. Roody was very displeased with the answers and struck Blaine multiple times.
After writing her statement and telling it to the police, the police took her to a motel and asked her to stick around town for a bit. Liza not having any money, id, or any place to go didn’t really have a choice. She stayed there and thanked her lucky stars that she was able to escape Sam.
The next morning the police knocked on Liza’s door. They asked if they could come in. Liza said yes of course. They all sat at the tiny table in the room. The police then said “Blaine’s not dead”.
Liza was shocked. After everything she was told and what she saw. She was positive that Blaine was dead.
Liza asked the police if they were sure. They were. They then asked her to go over her story one more time so they could fully understand what happened.
After Liza explained the events that she endured the past while, the cops then explained that they talked to Blaine and asked his side of the story. Blaine told the cops that Liza had some mental health issues and had been dealing with those for a while. That she was on some sort of pills and that she had gone to a psychiatrist. The police took Blaine’s story and attempted to verify everything he said. However, they could not verify any of Blaine’s story. There was very little on Liza in any system they knew of and they couldn’t find her work or banking information anywhere. They were able to confirm that she was alive and had an apartment in Canada.
The police informed Liza that without any more information there was nothing they could do. They arranged to have her sent back to her apartment in Canada.
…
Liza arrived in her apartment. She nearly cried when she walked in. It looked almost like one of the rooms she had been trapped in, in wherever she had been. She wandered around and looked at the apartment some more. There was nothing familiar about this apartment. She found a phone that had a message on it. What she heard gave her chills. “Liza, it’s Sam. Can’t wait to see you tonight at 7!”
Once again, Liza couldn’t figure out what happened or how she ended up here. Was she crazy? Did she have some sort of mental illness? Was she with Sam this whole time and those drugs he gave her made her think she wasn’t? Why bring her to that place then? Or was that all in her head too?
Not knowing what else to do, Liza went to sleep in what was “her bed”. Was this all real, a dream, or a psychotic episode?
