Liza was suddenly startled awake from her sleep. She didn’t know why, but she had a feeling someone was watching her. She couldn’t hear anything and was terrified to move, but she knew staying still was no better. She decided to turn on the lights. She looked around as soon as she turned on the lights and did not see anyone. She was still terrified, especially given all that’s happened so far. She went to the bathroom to splash some water on her face. While she was in there she thought she heard scuffling on the other side of the wall. She looked at the bathroom mirror and inspected it closely. There seemed to be nothing amiss. However, since this wasn’t her place and she was essentially kidnapped by a jilted ex-lover, she decided to make sure there was nothing behind that mirror. She went to the kitchen to find something to either pry the mirror off the wall or break it. She found an instrument that would help her pry the mirror off. She went to the bathroom and set to work. As soon as she got the mirror off she looked at the wall in utter terror. What she saw behind the mirror was not an opening to anything, but a card. A card that had Sam’s face on it.
Liza opened the card, annoyed, but determined to read it. It simply said “love, why did you do this to us? We’re just trying to help you atone. I told you there’s no way out for you. Stop trying.” Liza could never stop trying, that wasn’t her style. The fact that Sam even suggested it made her want to try harder to find an escape. She was about to leave the bathroom when she noticed something. The area where the mirror had been appeared to be a little sunken in. Determined to find a way out she went to the kitchen and grabbed all the tools that would help her smash through the wall. It was slow going as most of the items in the kitchen were small, but eventually she broke through. Light shone through the hole. Liza gasped. Finally, a sign that things might turn around for her.
3 hours later, Liza had made an opening large enough for her to comfortably crawl through. It looked like there was another passage on the other side of this wall. She grabbed some more food, cleaned up a bit and then ventured out into the passage. She looked around, it was just an empty hall with lanterns on either side. Left or right? She looked down both ways and didn’t see any indication of how long this particular corridor went. She started walking towards the left. After about 20 minutes she reached a corner. She turned and nearly let out a scream. Standing right at the end of this corridor was a 12 ft. tall wax figure of something that looked similar to Samara from The Ring. This was hardly something that was a deterrent for Liza at this point. She walked straight towards it and turned down the next hallway.
She stopped. At the end of this hallway was a set of stairs that led up to one single door. For the first time in what felt like days Liza felt hope. She walked up the stairs, turned the knob to the door, and to her surprise it opened. Light flooded the hallway and her eyes could not handle it. She had been in the dark for far too long. After a few minutes, her eyes adjusted to the brightness. She walked outside and all hope she had immediately diminished. Outside was in the middle of a desert. Just her luck.
Liza went back inside to go back to the room that was basically a two bedroom apartment to grab water, food, clothes, and something to carry everything in. Once she gathered everything, she went back to the desert. She started walking in one direction and just hoping for the best. She had no idea what time it was or where she was.
After a few hours, it started getting dark out. Liza had thought to bring enough to prepare her for a cold desert night. She went to bed.
Liza was dreaming about that room again; the one where Sam claims she murdered his son. However, in the dream she is not the one who murders Blaine. She could not clearly see the face of the murderer, but it wasn’t her. She was drugged and restrained when the murder took place, but she was still in the room and just coherent enough to know what was taking place. Poor Blaine, she was trying to help him, not hurt him.
Liza woke up. She wondered if Sam knew the truth and was just torturing her because he found it fun or if he honestly thought that she was the one who murdered his son. If it was the latter, he truly didn’t know her at all. Although, given how self involved he was, that wasn’t overly a surprise. Liza hoped that she would know the full story one day, but for now she had to keep walking.
Later on that day Liza found another place to rest for the night. She was too far gone now to even know how to get back to the door so she had to keep going forward. She woke up the next day after having a similar dream as the night before and continued moving forward.
It took Liza two more days before she saw something other than the sands of the desert. Of course, she wasn’t sure if she was actually seeing it or if her eyes were playing tricks on her. Either way, she figured she may as well head for what she saw. She headed straight for what looked like a random town in the middle of a desert. She arrived a couple hours later. This town looked deserted. There were mini mansions everywhere with no one in sight.
With some of Liza’s supplies getting low, she decided to go explore the houses. She stepped inside the first house. This place might have looked amazing had it been kept up. There were cobwebs everywhere and some animals had clearly made this their home. Determined to keep searching, she started going through the house. Surprisingly, there was running water so she was able to refill some of the water bottles she previously grabbed. After some more searching there really wasn’t anything else in the house.
Liza was still determined to get out of here. She decided to search every single house on the property to see if there was anything that could help her get back home. Although, she’s not sure she even knew where home was anymore. After searching the very last house, Liza found nothing that could assist her. She decided to rest and start out on her adventure the next day.
It was the same dream again. Somehow the face was becoming clearer to her. She knew that face, but couldn’t place it. The only thing she knew for sure is that it wasn’t Sam.
When Liza woke up the next morning, she set off into the desert once more. She didn’t get too far when she saw something that made her heart and hope sink. She saw a door that led into the sand. Liza could either continue walking in the desert and hope that she eventually made it somewhere or open this door and see where it went. Of course, there was always the possibility she would be stuck in an endless loop again, but if she stayed out in the desert there was the possibility of dying from any number of things.
After a great internal struggle, Liza decided to go see what was behind the door. She opened the door and was shocked to see a hallway without any blue, red or green doors. Instead, she felt like she was walking into a movie in a hallway that led to some sort of control room. She continued walking until she came across a few doors. On her left, there was a door with the title “Office #1”, on the right “Office #2”. She could also see a door at the end of the hallway. She walked to this door. The title on the outside gave her chills, although she couldn’t figure out why since it just said “Control Room”.
This place looked abandoned. Liza was expecting the door to be locked. It wasn’t. She walked into the operations room. This was a huge open room. There were monitors lining one of the walls. There were multiple control desks throughout this room. She walked to one of them. The title on it was Denmark. She walked to another, the title on it was Canada. She walked around a few more of these and saw some more Countries names’: United States of America, Brazil, China, etc.
Liza sat at one of the desks and reviewed all the buttons on the desk. She realized what she was looking at was essentially cameras from all over the world. Someone somewhere really wanted to keep tabs on everyone. What Liza couldn’t figure out is why there was no one in here. This place almost looked abandoned. What happened? She wandered around the room a bit more. She found another door that led out into another hallway.
About halfway down this hallway she heard voices. She heard one voice in particular that scared her, Sam’s. While she was terrified and wanted to go home, she needed to eavesdrop to hear what she could. She wandered a bit until she found which room the voices were coming from. She stood outside the door and listened to the conversation. It was a bit muffled, but from what she could hear they were upset that Liza had escaped the room and they were discussing their next move. The next thing she heard was music to her ears, there were vehicles somewhere around here.
As soon as Liza heard about the vehicles and Sam’s plans to take them to search the desert and then go into some town, Liza left and attempted to find the vehicles; hoping that she would be able to hide in one of them. Liza found another area similar to the control room, but there were no tv’s or control panels, this time there were only vehicles. Thankfully, Sam is vain enough to have his own name as his license plate. While Liza wasn’t thrilled about the idea of being stuck in a vehicle with Sam and possibly being found while she was in there, she would rather that than stay stuck wherever the hell this was.
