Dice Games!

Let’s talk Dice games!

When you think of Dice games what comes to mind; Yahtzee, Craps, Liar’s Dice, or maybe even Bunco? All of these are played with standard 6 sided dice. There are numerous games that are not considered Dice Games but use dice during their gameplay. Some of these include Monopoly, Clue, Trivial Pursuit, Pandemic, Cranium and so many more. There are also games that use non-standard dice.

D&D (Dungeons & Dragons) is a role-playing game where the roll of the dice determines your fate in the game. However, the dice used in this game are quite different. The standard set of D&D Dice includes 7 dice in total which consists of D20, D12, D10, D8, D6, D4, and Percentile Die. Now what is fun about these dice is that they are multi-sided. So the D20 die has 20 sides, the D12 has 12 sides, and so on. Each die is rolled as needed depending on gameplay. This is determined by the DM (Dungeon Master). For more info on how to play D&D, please see our blog posts starting with this blog post: https://parkwaycustboardgame.wixsite.com/website/post/dungeons-dragons-part-1

Of course, there are multiple other posts about D&D that you can check out.

Another game that uses a non-standard set of dice is called Rory’s Story Cube. This is a great game to play and can be played by young and old alike. If you have an imagination, you can play Rory’s Story Cubes. The dice used in this game are only standard in that they have 6 sides. Instead of having the well-known pips (the dots denoting the number), these dice have pictures. There are 9 dice in the game and that is the entire game. You roll these 9 dice and then you proceed to tell a story from the pictures on the dice. It’s a great way to help build your imagination.

Boggle is another game that uses dice differently. It’s basically word search with dice. The game is played using a plastic grid of lettered dice, in which players attempt to find words in sequences of adjacent letters. You basically shake the container of dice, turn over the timer and start searching for words. If you are brave you can even try a round of Klingon Boggle as they showed in the hit TV show “The Big Bang Theory”.

No matter what your preference, dice games promise lots of fun. So grab your favorite dice game and have some fun!
