As the name tends to suggest, board games are usually played with a board and a variety of other objects. For example, a trivia game tends to have the board, a deck of cards with questions on them, pawns, and some dice. These games are usually 2 players or more. While it is not impossible to play them by yourself, they do tend to be more fun with other people.
Some of the classic board games include Monopoly, Trivial Pursuit, The Game of Life, and various others. Monopoly is the one that most people in North America tend to know, as they have grown up playing it. It’s the game that makes you hate all your family and friends because it’s partially luck, partially strategy. This is part of the reason it is so popular. For those who don’t know, the goal of Monopoly is to travel around the board and collect as many properties as you can. Once you have a property you can charge rent for anyone who lands on that space. The person with the most money at the end of the game is the winner. Of course, as with any other board game you can change the goal at the end of the game to whatever you want. For example, one of the goals could be that the person who goes to jail the most is the winner of the game.
My family has played tons of board games over the years, we all have our favourites. One of mine is Smart Ass because it’s an extremely simple game, doesn’t take that much time, and you learn a lot of interesting fun facts. However, my brother tends to like games with a few more complexities. For example, Zombie Road Trip is one of his favourites. My step-mom prefers Trivial Pursuit because she likes learning the facts in the game and enjoys answering the random trivia. My dad prefers games like Sorry and Trouble because they are simple and require little to no brain power.
